A symposium entitled ‘Music & the Elderly – Learning an instrument at an advanced age’ will be held in the city of Groningen on June 16. People who are interested are invited to come to this symposium. Date: Saturday June 16, 2012, Groningen

Target groups
Teachers of music schools and private practices, organisers and directors music schools / cultural institutions, branch and professional music organisations, researchers in music education, government organisations, civil servants concerned with policies of music/music schools, music students.

Music and the Elderly
The programme of the symposium is mainly about finishing the research project ‘Learning an instrument at an advanced age’. This research was conducted by the research group Lifelong Learning in Music & the Arts (Prince Claus Conservatoire, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen) within the research strand ‘Healthy Ageing through Music & the Arts’.

Professonal sector in development and new opportunities for music teachers
The objective of the research project is to further the development of teaching the elderly, and to make this knowledge available for the professional practice. The project is financed by the RAAK programme small businesses of Stichting Innovatie Alliantie (SIA).
